Little Edie’s fight

Nick Wright and Paige McLean welcomed their third child, a baby girl, in early February. Tragically, by mid-March, she was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia (ALM). Since then, she has already undergone two rounds of chemotherapy, with another to follow before a bone marrow transplant. As you can imagine, this has placed enormous emotional and financial strain on their young family, with much of their time being spent in Melbourne for treatment.

Despite these challenges, they have been surrounded by strong support from their close-knit community, for which they are deeply grateful. However, there remains a long and uncertain road ahead.

Nick and his father, Richard, run a mixed sheep and cropping operation at Majorca, near Maryborough, and have been valued wool-growing clients of mine for several years. Nick also spent time in his twenties shearing throughout the local district, and both he and his family are known for their generosity and willingness to support others. They are exactly the kind of people who quietly contribute a great deal to their community.

“Edie is in hospital round the clock. So one of us has to be there with her at all times

She is having third round of chemotherapy for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia followed by a bone marrow transplant that they are hoping to start in mid July

This will be the hardest part as for 3 months only nick, myself and her 2 nans are able to see her.

Post that we have to stay here in melb for another 3 months with multiple appointments a week and to ensure her body has taken to the transfer and eliminated the leukaemia

At this stage we are here till Christmas

Nick and myself (Paige) tag team each week so one of us is home with the big kids 90% of the time to keep their routine as normal as possible.

Each way travel is a couple of hours - we do this several times a week. More if we bring the big kids down to see Edie.

We have been since March 16th “

Thanks so much Len 🙏🏻
